Domonee's ~Self Discovery~

Dear Domonee,

I love you. I don't always like some of the things you do or the choices you make though. Some of those choices turned you into an inactive 300 pound, four pack a day smoker who can't control her Type 2 Diabetes.

There. I said it. You and I know you have some serious issues to attack. You will win. You have the support of your friends, family and the wonderful and caring people here. With all the emotional support available to you, you can't fail. I know you'll have weak moments and falter. But.. BUT... we don't stop. From this day forward, NO EXCUSES. You ARE going to seek help and work very hard and do whatever you need to do to reach your immediate goals. Those immediate goals are:

1) Control diabetes (with WOE/WOL) and get off all oral medications
2) Reach a reasonable and healthy weight
3) Stop smoking (member of quitnet with quit date of 6/24/07)
4) Become fit

1+2+3+4= HEALTHY!!!

You have many secondary goals and of course your lifelong goals, but on this forum, these goals take precedence. Moving toward these goals, many of your secondary goals (lowering cholesterol, etc) will also be met. This journal is where you will discover YOU. You will learn why you make choices that cause you problems, and most important with the help of the wonderful supportive people on this forum, HOW TO STOP MAKING THOSE CHOICES. To those of you who read this - PLEASE, please I'm asking for your advice and support. I need your knowledge and for you to share your experiences with me so I may learn. Please feel free to post as much and as often as you can to help me. Discovery is all about revealing things about yourself (some not so pleasant), learning things to apply to my situations, gaining knowledge to make better choices, realizing what I need to change, identifying problem areas, and so much more. This journal will be where I record my journey of all this... my self discovery and I need your help. Thank you.

Love,
Domonee (your best friend)

Day One

Sugar level (fasting) 210 *still too high, but yesterday's was 223

Breakfast - low carb tortilla with roast beef and pepper jack cheese
Lunch - small chicken salad
Dinner - Steak, asparagus
Snacks - HB eggs (if I need them)

I tend to eat most of my carbs earlier in the day and never go over 20 per day.

I'm a bit confused and overwhelmed

I've been reading a lot of old posts.

I am interesting in Oil Pulling, but unfortunately didn't learn about this until today, might have saved my teeth. I'm wondering if I could still benefit even tho I have dentures? I also wonder if I should swish with my teeth in or not?

Currently I don't take any supplements and omg.. where would I even start? The choices are mind boggling to say the least and of course I have that nasty money issue (not enuf!).

I am also intrigued by all the positive posts about Coconut Oil. I'm especially interested in the energy and appetite suppressant features. I really intend to try that.

I think I need to get more sleep (at night) also.

There is just soooooo much information here!

Hey there my new friend. WOW, you are off to a wonderful start with your journal. I loved the introduction.

I too was overwhelmed and confused with all the information available here. Also so much of the information has it's own pros and cons. People agree and disagree and it's is so hard. You have to work with trial and error and be your own judge. What works for others might not work for you. But, you seem to have the right mindset, so I know you will do fine.

I look forward to getting to know you and joining you on your journey.

Good Night

Candy, Thanks for stopping by and thank you for your support and friendship! I hope your daughter is feeling brand new SOON!

I got lazy and didn't do Fitday yesterday and almost skipped it today, but I managed a half hearted attempt (not complete).

Been busy just reading a lot on here and trying to sort some things out and make a few decisions about what I want to try. This isn't easy as I have decision issues! Oh well, I can decide most of that stuff another time.

I stayed pretty much on plan with my food today. Was easy and I savored every bite! I drank a bit over a gallon of water and today was one of those "water only" days. I really love sf drinks especially Diet Pepsi and Crystal Light. I could seriously enjoy a case (24 cans) of Diet Pepsi daily, but have pretty much tried to eliminate it except VERY occasionally. I'm considering doing only meat, eggs and water only for a few days. I'll see how I feel about that in the morning. Good night.

Day Two

I didn't test this morning. I ate before I even thought about it. I'll have no problem drinking my water and will stick to my meal plan.

I'm going to order a few things from Netrition today, not exactly sure what yet. There are soooo many things I want to try and have tried, love and want to get again, but there is that nasty money issue!

I'm not going to post my menu here because at the moment I'm doing fine, losing weight, sticking to my planned menus, no temptation to cheat.

I'm finding that food isn't my problem. Not that it won't be in the future, but at least for the moment, I'm doing great in that area.

Where I am having problems is the exercise thing. It's not difficult for me after I'm doing it.. it's just finding the motivation to actually DO IT. If I beat myself up over anything, that will be it. I don't understand why I have so much trouble getting started? I enjoy it when I do it. Currently when I do exercise I only do it for about 20 to 40 minutes. I don't want to overdo to the point that it will take even more to get me to do it. I think if I don't push myself too much, that I'll gradually do more. I'm one of those people who can be rebellious. Not something I like about myself, trying to work on that.

Still trying to decide on a supplement.

I understand about the working out motivation. I joined a gym a little over a month ago and went there every day for two straight weeks... and since then I've been MIA.

I guess when I get the bill for the next month's membership I'll get motivated to go back... but with the success I've had you wouldn't think motivation would be a problem.

Like you, I'm glad when I'm working out and afterwards... it's just getting there. Maybe we can think of something?

Stud - I can't wait to see what you think of!

I'll try to think of something also, my mind is currently going in the direction of some type of reward when I exercise. (Prefer that over punishment if I don't)

I can only exercise about 20 minutes. Bad back, bad knee. I figure it's better than what I was doing before ... NOTHING.

I started back exercising by going on walks in a nearby park around a lake. The lake is 1.4 miles around in various levels, flat then it gets hilly. Anywayz, on my calendar each day I give myself a sticker for staying on program and a sticker for doing some type of exercise. My calendar is filling up nicely. One day I got 3 stickers because I ate on plan and did gym and walk in the morning and then later in the evening I took another walk.

Great job on drinking a gallon of water a day, that's what my dr. wants me to do, which I have only done once. I will try and work on that tomorrow, at least get in 1/2 gallon.

Candy ~ Of course it's working on your body! I'd love to have a gazelle! Actually I'd love to have 25% of Tony's energy! Too bad he can't bottle that up and sell it...

Tannie ~ Nice work on your exercise! I used to hate water. The "taste' of it and everything about it. The closest I could get was ice cubes in my Crystal Light. I actually had to ease myself into the water thing. First I started drinking bottled water with Crystal Light (that's how I discovered I liked that stuff, prior to that it was only Diet Pepsi). After a couple of weeks, I quit adding CL to every other bottle. By the time I consumed my 3rd case of water, I was drinking the water plain and started filling the bottles with tap water once or twice. I just quit buying water at that point and started drinking tap water. I am NEVER without a glass or a bottle of water. I keep it on my nightstand, on my desk, in my console. I drink it with my meals, I drink it all the time. I still can't say I like the taste of it, but I do drink it. I keep 2 gallons of water in the fridge and don't count what I drink away from home, but I always make sure I empty ONE of the gallons everyday. Most days I kill half of the 2nd gallon. It's like anything else, you just make yourself do it... one step at a time. I have to wake up once or twice to use the loo, but I don't have any problem falling asleep afterwards or I'd limit my liquid intake, just play with it and have fun by making it some kind of game if that helps. Just don't try to go all the way to a gallon a day in one day... ease into it.

I went on a spending spree today....

Netrition probably loves me today! Instead of the typical order for around $50, I spent $160! Then I ordered Ketostix as well. I struggled with spending all this money today but I decided to splurge. After all, these items are to help me with my WOE and I'm SOOOO worth it. I didn't have a clue whether I have ever even been in ketosis or not without the stix, so even tho I hated to spend the money, I think it's money well spent. Now for what I purchased from Netrition: I finally got a daily nutritional supplement. I also bought some Biotin because I have that thyroid thingy going on and want to see if it will improve my skin, nails and hair. Most everything else are ingredient thingys. Baking stuff, flavoring stuff. I also got the Extra Virgin Coconut Oil and Extra Virgin Olive Oil (can't find EVOO in my stores locally, just the regular stuff). I also got the Walden Pasta Sauces to use with my Miracle Noodles. Now I have a meal option that I know will fill me up and it's really low in carbs. I can have a decent helping of "Spaghetti" with sauce and LC garlic bread. All that for about 6 carbs! I ordered 3 flavors of the Divincci Syrups (caramel, chocolate and french vanilla). I don't use a lot of LC stuff daily, just like to have it on hand in case I get a craving. It's all in the plan!

I was good today on my food. Drank all my water. Neglected to test my BGL, and didn't exercise It's bedtime now and today is over. I can and will do better tomorrow. Isn't that just one of the best gifts from God? A brand new day offering the chance to improve?

Good Morning! Yes you are worth it. Whatever it takes for you to stay on plan you need to do. I order from Netrition about twice a month and I go grocery shopping every week. I've basically got it down to where I'm just picking up perishables now and the occasional sale items. I go online every Thursday to look at the Kroger and Marsh grocery ads. I click on the sale items I want and then it prints my shopping list out for me. I also created a low-carb shopping list in Excel to help jog my memory when I'm in the store. I have my kid brother who lives with me and I tell him that the middle shelf in the pantry is MINE! It's all of my low-carb mixes, sauces, foods, etc. He also knows to stay away from anything of mine in the fridge. I find that if I have several choices for low-carb foods then I'm good. Last night is the first night this week I haven't cooked. I had leftovers. This is what works for me. Keep the faith!

Do you know I have NEVER seen him or the infomercials, etc. DH can't believe it. I just saw it in the store and it looked like something I could do.

I've been really busy the past couple of days. Been getting some walking in, drinking all my water and sticking to under 20 g carbs per day. Right now I'm not even hungry but I haven't eaten much today so I am thinking I should eat but at the same time I don't want to get back into the habit of eating when I'm not hungry for any reason.

My son (in GA) has been having some issues and I've gotten more phone calls from him in the past three days than I think I've gotten from him in the last year! At least it's nice to know that he wants to talk to me when he's bouncing ideas around. Feels really nice

My PC time has been mostly limited to improving MYSPACE since I finally made one. Don't know why I put it off for so long? Was super easy and even tho I have a long way to go, I'm starting to be pleased with the results.

Sorting thru things and starting to pack.. I don't know why I keep so much junk... it's really worthless stuff and I am NOT moving it 1000 miles! These items will have an intimate relationship with my dumpster. I can be strong about this. I know I can. lol

I tested at 207 this morning. I still have to update Fitday and look around the boards. I don't know how I would have time to do any of this if I had a life!

Oh, I still be here and check on you at night too

I read your post about your sugar in the main lobby. Hun, I wish I knew how that scientific stuff worked so I could help you out. I do hope you get it figured out. I worry about you.

I wish I knew more too! I'm not going into it all but my meds got changed (i updated the main board post if you wanna look) I'm a bit depressed over all of it.. but i'm sure it's only temporary.. I'll bounce back after i put a plan of action together.

Love the new pic and hope Hannah's doing better. You're both in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks so much for caring, I can't tell you how much it means to me.

And ... Sir Studly - Thanks for caring too! I appreciate that as much as your terrific sense of humor!

Group hug!!!

Today is weigh in day for the century club.. 262, down 2 pounds and considering all my diabetes issues... I'm thrilled!

Reading this morning was 181 so I'm hopeful it's going down. I've added cinnamon as it's supposed to lower glucose level in the blood, I'm hoping it works.

Started different oral meds (for diabetes) this morning... we'll see.

Goals today

MEAT and EGGS only
1 gallon of water
30 minutes of exercise
2 teaspoons of cinnamon (trying this - sposed to lower BGL)

Domonee, I am glad your reading was down again. I think when you concentrate on getting it down, the weight is gonna fly off. Maybe the new meds will help as well.

Your friendship means a lot to me as well.
